Chicago Man Explains to Don Lemon His Views on Anti-ICE Protesters

Protester Disagreement at ICE Demonstration in Chicago

A man from Chicago expressed his dissent towards the protesters involved in a demonstration against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a Friday interview with former CNN host Don Lemon. He criticized not only the protesters’ actions but also their overall attitudes.

The video, which can be found on YouTube, captures the atmosphere of the protest as demonstrators yelled at unmarked vehicles. The man conveyed to Lemon that he found some protesters to be filled with hatred and noted instances of “violence” aimed at passing vehicles.

“I think this is unacceptable,” he stated. “People who come here show violence, they show hatred, they show intolerance. They’re blocking vehicles, causing damage, throwing bottles and fireworks.”

Lemon interrupted to comment on the chaos as a van drove by, filled with screams and whistles from the crowd. He mentioned that the anger was directed towards suspected detainees in the vehicle.

The man further elaborated, saying, “I don’t think they came for this, but the protesters had their weapons locked and tried to disrupt traffic—without reason.” He emphasized that while free speech is important, it doesn’t grant the right to threaten violence. He recounted witnessing ICE agents facing death threats and even being kidnapped, which he deemed unacceptable.

When Lemon probed the man’s understanding of the protest’s motivations, he acknowledged that while he understands the reasons behind the demonstrations, he disagreed with the tactics and even some core messages. He articulated a perspective on personal security, likening it to locking doors and vetting who enters personal spaces. “We want to feel secure with who has access to our property,” he asserted. “This includes our country.”

The crackdown on illegal immigration, referred to as Operation Midway Blitz, started in September and has intensified across Illinois. The situation has led to violent protests against increased enforcement actions, prompting confrontations between protesters and immigration agents.

On Saturday, tensions flared as a Border Patrol agent in a Chicago suburb was tackled by protesters and surrounded by a group of vehicles, resulting in immigration agents firing defensively. Reports surfaced indicating that Chicago police were instructed not to respond to Border Patrol requests for assistance during the unrest.
