Chicago Teamsters Demand Immigration Warrant Protocols

In Chicago, Teamsters are calling on packaging companies to refuse entry to federal immigration officers without a proper warrant. This demand is central to their overall stance, emphasizing the need for rights and protections for workers.

Workers have received assurances from Mosel that they will require ICE to present warrants signed by a judge before being allowed access to the property.

Strikes at Mausel Package Solutions in the predominantly Hispanic “Little Village” neighborhood have extended for over two months, with Local 705 negotiators having recently turned down the factory’s latest proposal.

Approximately 140 employees, mainly Latinx, work in the factory that repurposes metal barrels for chemical storage.

One worker expressed concerns about potential racial targeting by ICE, even when employees could prove their legal residency. The strike reportedly started over issues related to employee treatment during discussions about contract negotiations.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has voiced strong support for the workers, aligning with their grievances against federal law enforcement. A former union teacher, Johnson understands the challenges they face.

He characterized federal raids as acts of terrorism, stating that under Trump’s administration, there’s a belief that “The Confederates will win.” Johnson emphasized that this union and strike represent the workers’ rights to lead the country’s future.

In his remarks, he affirmed that Mosel workers deserve livable wages while highlighting the hostile environment created by federal initiatives against workers, immigrants, and marginalized communities.

Johnson pointed out that protections must be established to prevent ICE from operating freely in various community spaces, including workplaces and schools, which fosters an atmosphere of fear.

He referred to Chicago as a “cozy city” and noted its increasing acceptance among Democratic leaders regarding the stigma around “sanctuary cities.”

Johnson reiterated his belief that President Trump embodies dictatorial behaviors. Meanwhile, updated data indicates that the city has reported 266 murders this year, averaging more than one a day.

Fox News Digital has sought comments from DHS and the Teamsters, while Mauser Packaging Solutions has yet to respond.
