Chief Justice Roberts Faces Criticism After Rushing Trump’s Oath of Office

U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts is facing intense criticism after he began administering the oath of office to President Donald Trump before First Lady Melania Trump stood next to him and held a Lincoln Bible.

Due to hiccups, President Trump's left hand appears to have been unable to reach the Bible, which is not a constitutional requirement but is a long-standing tradition. His right hand was raised toward God.

Jonathan Turley, a legal scholar and attorney, said this is not the first time Roberts has made a mistake when taking the oath of office.

“The Chief Justice moved a little too quickly before President Trump laid his hand on the Bible. Mr. Roberts has had embarrassing encounters with Mr. Obama before,” Turley wrote in a post on X. However, there is no need to start over…

Journalist Jack Posobiec also highlighted Robert's mistakes that led to Obama's second swearing-in at the White House in 2009.

“Roberts rushed the oath and messed it up again,” he wrote in a post to X.

Conservative radio host Mike Gallagher accused Roberts of being a “tool”.

“Shameful that Justice Roberts rushed the oath and didn't give First Lady Melania time to get to a place to put a Bible for her husband. What a great tool,” he wrote in a post about X.

Roberts did not allow members of Trump's family to surround him, but Judge Brett Kavanaugh did allow Vice President J.D. Vance's family to surround him for about 25 seconds before he began taking the oath. was allowed.
