After President Donald Trump delivered the president's speech to a joint session in Congress, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) Chief of Staff was reportedly arrested for drunk driving charges, Breitbart News learned.
Hayden Haynes, Johnson's Chief of Staff, was arrested for driving drunk “after his car struck the Capitol” around 11:40pm, two law enforcement officers and Johnson's office confirmed.
Haynes was released and given a “quote to appear in court,” one source told the outlet, according to a police report. Haynes is said to be “trusted” and has served as Johnson's Chief of Staff since Johnson was voted 220-209 votes as a family speaker in October 2023.
“The driver returned to the parked vehicle around 11:40pm last night,” Capitol Police confirmed in a statement to Breitbart News. “We responded to them for the DUI and arrested them.”
Johnson spokesman Taylor Haussy said that Johnson “knows the encounter that happened last night,” adding that Johnson “has total faith and confidence in his ability to lead Hayden's speaker's office.”
“The speaker knows the encounter that his Chief of Staff and the Capitol were involved last night,” Haulsee explained. “The speaker has worked closely with Hayden for nearly a decade and trusts him to serve as his Chief of Staff throughout his entire tenure in Congress. Due to Hayden's respected reputation among this member and staff, the speaker has full confidence and confidence in his ability to lead Hayden's speaker's office.”
