Chiefs’ Matt Nagy gave speech after Travis Kelce’s blowup on Andy Reid

Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy gave an impassioned speech during a key moment in the 2024 Super Bowl.

Nagy collected moments from the Chiefs’ offense after the much-discussed outbursts of Travis Kelce and Andy Reid, attempting to translate the emotion on the sideline into a positive outcome on the field.

The moment was captured by Inside the NFL’s cameras and microphones during a crucial game that the Chiefs ultimately won 25-22.

“The feeling right now is, just stay together. We understood each other,” Nagy said. “That’s who we are. Last night we talked about being us and being champions. These are moments that don’t get too big. They stick.”

The Chiefs trailed 10-3 at the end of the first half, but fought back in the second half and overtime to win the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl.

Mr. Nagy’s speech came shortly after Mr. Kelce had a heated exchange with Mr. Reid on the sideline.

After Isaiah Pacheco fumbled deep in the 49ers’ territory, Kelce appeared to scream in the Chiefs coach’s face and then run into him.

The Chiefs’ star tight end came up to Reid and immediately hugged him.

“He caught me when I wasn’t looking,” Reid said with a laugh in an interview with ESPN after the Super Bowl win. “He didn’t know I was going to go that far. Then he came over and hugged me and said, ‘I’m sorry.’ But he just wants to be on the field and play. There is no one I am better than him.

“He’s a competitive kid, he loves to play, he makes me feel young, but my balance is terrible.”

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes also said the incident showed the passion the team has when locked in a battle.

“That’s the mentality we’ve always had and that’s why we can win games like we won today,” he said.
