Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes seems to be doing something fans aren't used to doing on the football field, and the same thing happened Saturday night against the Miami Dolphins.
Mahomes was attempting to run for a touchdown in the third quarter when he ran into Dolphins defensive back Deshaun Elliott. The two players collided in the helmets, and Mahomes was unable to score on the play.

The broadcast showed the top of Mahomes' helmet cracked. NFL officials stopped play to get new helmets. After the game, he told reporters he had never had a crack in his helmet like this.
“I think it had something to do with it being really cold,” Mahomes said. “I didn't know what happened in that moment, but I walked into the huddle and everyone told me, and I was like, 'Okay, but I can't get out of the game.' We can figure it out” on the sideline.
“I wish we could have scored, but obviously we couldn’t get to the end zone.”

Mahomes appeared upset as he put on his spare helmet. He said it didn't fit at first, but he thought it might have something to do with the cold weather making it tighter.
“They have a backup there. They need to talk about where to store the backup. It was like freezing, so when I tried to put it on. It was completely frozen and I couldn't put it on. I couldn’t do it,” he said. . “I don't know if anyone took a picture, but it didn't look very good. We made some adjustments on the sideline, warmed up a little bit and were able to pick it up from there.”
Kansas City won 26-7.

Mahomes finished 23-of-41 for 262 passing yards and a touchdown pass to Laci Rice. He ran for 41 yards on two carries.
