RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars live show is touring nationwide. Sara Gonzalez James, the producer of “Sara Gonzales Unfiltered,” was lucky enough to get tickets to the Dallas show at the Broadway Music Hall.
Gonzalez noted that the show was “for all ages” and that despite its extremely explicit and inappropriate content, many minors attended.
The drag queens stalked the stage dressed almost completely naked, yelling obscenities like “my pussy is hot” and “you all sucked a good pussy for these seats” and making jokes about “ass” and “gays” to the audience.
Gonzalez recorded the entire incident on video, including several minors who were in attendance.
“I think anyone with two functioning brain cells would understand that this is child abuse. This is something that doesn't belong to children in America, much less children in Texas,” Gonzalez said. “We should have a higher standard than that.”
Interestingly, the Texas Legislature passed SB 12, a law that would prohibit children from viewing sexually explicit performances, but there is an ongoing court battle preventing the law from being implemented.
“This is often referred to on the left as a 'drug ban,' and of course it's not, and you call that out on yourself,” Gonzalez says. “It's not a 'drug ban,' but LGBT groups have sued and managed to get a permanent injunction blocking states from enforcing the law.”
The law will remain blocked until the court issues a final ruling on the appeal.
Texas Rep. Brian Harrison is also feeling the fear.
“There were very young children in attendance and I'm a father of four, my oldest is 10, and I find this by far the most disturbing thing that's going on here,” Harrison told Gonzalez.
“Texas has long had laws enforcing certain community standards regarding children — for example, children cannot go to strip clubs in Texas — but what these places are doing is getting around those old laws by calling them something else. Subjectively, and I think any sane, reasonable person would know, they're clearly streaming adult content,” he added.
