Child admitted to the hospital after falling on a cruise ship in Funchal, Madeira

Incident Aboard Cruise Ship in Madeira

A toddler has been hospitalized after a fall on a cruise ship docked at a well-known tourist spot. Reports indicate that a two-year-old child fell from a height of roughly 6 to 10 feet while on the TUI cruise ship Mein Schiff 7, which was stationed in Funchal, Madeira, according to the local news agency DN Madeira.

Fortunately, there are no indications that the child fell into the water. The boy, whose identity hasn’t been released, was with his mother at the time. He was reportedly conscious when emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene.

The specific details surrounding the fall, including its exact location on the ship, remain unclear. Authorities haven’t shared much more information. However, DN Madeira mentioned that the child was in “critical condition” upon transport to the intensive care unit at Dr. Nelio Mendonça Hospital.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, TUI Cruises disputed claims regarding the boy’s health, asserting he was never in critical condition or any danger, although some reports suggest he had life-threatening injuries. They confirmed an accident had occurred involving the child on the ship.

The cruise line also noted that the child will remain under observation at the hospital. This incident is part of a troubling trend, as it follows several other accidents related to cruises since the start of the year.

Madeira itself is renowned for its stunning coastal scenery and pleasant climate, making it a favored destination for holidaymakers. The island lies in the Atlantic Ocean, roughly 300 miles north of the Canary Islands and about 600 miles southwest of Lisbon, Portugal.
