Tragic Incident Claims Toddler’s Life in Georgia

A tragic accident at a shopping center in Georgia resulted in the death of a toddler. Authorities report that a driver trying to park struck the boy and his father, an off-duty firefighter.

The incident occurred at the Limestone Marketplace on Wednesday, where Samuel Skelton was holding his 22-month-old son, Knox. According to the Gainesville Police Department, the driver was identified as 68-year-old Teresa Parker, who was maneuvering a 2024 Ford Edge into a handicap space when she accidentally accelerated over the curb.

Captain Kevin Holbrook of the Gainesville Police stated that Samuel had his back turned and was unaware of the approaching vehicle when the incident happened. The young boy was airlifted to a children’s hospital in Atlanta but sadly succumbed to his injuries. Samuel sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

Knox was nearing his second birthday when his life was cut short. A fundraiser for the Skelton family described the heartbreaking loss. It stated, “Sammy and Kiana Skelton recently experienced a heart-wrenching loss when their beloved son, Knox, who was just shy of his second birthday, passed away in a tragic accident.” The obituary highlighted that Knox loved playing with monster trucks and enjoyed visiting the park to swing on the swings with his dad during his days off.

In a statement, the Gainesville Fire Department expressed its condolences and urged the community to keep the Skelton family in their thoughts and prayers. They described Samuel and Kiana as humble and caring individuals, emphasizing how heartbreaking the tragedy is for everyone involved.

“This was just a tragic accident,” Capt. Holbrook remarked. “You had an elderly female who did not intentionally do this.” An investigation into the accident is still ongoing, and Parker has not faced any charges at this time.
