Death of Art Influencer Jerry Gogosian Raises Questions

A poignant video capturing art influencer Jerry Gogosian’s last moments has emerged following the discovery of her body in a luxury hotel in Brazil.

The 40-year-old, known as Hilde Lynn Helfenstein, had traveled to Brazil for cosmetic surgery and was in the midst of recovering from her procedure.

In the video, Helfenstein shares advice with her over 150,000 followers, encouraging them to “practice self-care” and “let the rich woman in you take flight.”

“What I recommend is to hire a makeup artist, do your hair, get a beautiful shawl, preferably woven from cashmere or Peru, and throw it around your shoulders,” she advises. She seems to emphasize taking care of oneself, stating, “Just worry and take a deep breath,” though her voice becomes slurred as she continues.

Helfenstein appears to drift into thoughts about her life, expressing concern that her husband might “go to jail for tax evasion.” She reflects, “I think it’s very healthy for the mind,” though her words seem somewhat disjointed. “They tell me to dress not for the job I have, but for the job I want to do.” She closes her video with an upbeat note, wishing her followers a great weekend.

Her body was found by a plastic surgeon in her room at the Rosewood São Paulo on Sunday after she failed to answer the phone. An empty vodka bottle, broken glass, and unidentified pills were discovered nearby, raising alarms. Helfenstein had been in São Paulo for about three weeks during her recovery.

The surgeon mentioned he had previously taken her to the hospital for a possible overdose and alleged that she had been using drugs. While the exact cause of death remains unknown, authorities have classified it as a “suspicious death.”

A spokesperson for the hotel stated, “The hotel cooperated fully with the competent authorities and promptly provided all requested information to assist in the investigation.”

Helfenstein’s persona, “Jerry Gogosian,” aimed to satirize the excesses of the modern art world. Several days prior to her passing, she humorously referred to herself as “the red-headed stepchild of the art world.”
