New Delhi:
The first footage of China's new stealth fighter jet, believed to be a 6th generation aircraft, has appeared on social media.
The large fighter jet without a tail appears to be an attack aircraft.
Due to its unconventional design, the new stealth fighter could be difficult, if not impossible, to detect using conventional radar.
If these Chinese stealth fighters are inducted into the hall of fame, they are likely to pose an unprecedented threat along India's borders.
India does not yet have a stealth fighter jet.
In May, NDTV reported satellite images showing China deploying its state-of-the-art J-20 stealth fighter jets within 150 kilometers of the Indian border in Sikkim state.
India will counter the J-20 with a fleet of 36 French-made Rafale fighters. Importantly, Shigatse, where the Chinese J-20 was spotted, is within 290 km of Hashimara in West Bengal, where India is based with its second squadron of 16 Rafales.
The Chengdu J-20, also known as the Mighty Dragon, is a twin-engine stealth fighter that entered service in 2017. Some reports suggest that China may already have as many as 250 stealth fighters that are difficult to detect by radar.
