Chinese scientists claim to have made a breakthrough with a real-life Death Star energy beam weapon, according to reports.
New high-power microwave weapons combine many small electromagnetic waves to create one large, focused laser beam. This is very similar to the Death Star in Star Wars, which destroyed planets by firing particle beams made up of several small electromagnetic sources.

The breakthrough lies in the process of “ultra-fast time-precision synchronization” that allows the beams to combine and focus in a single location. According to the South China Morning Post.
A Chinese research team is now able to produce miniature lasers with precision that exceeds that of atomic clocks. According to the Independent.
Scientists say the time interval between the small lasers cannot exceed 170 picoseconds, or one trillionth of a second, the South China Morning Post reported.
Researchers were able to achieve this result with the help of optical fibers.
The report said extensive technological developments made possible by the use of fiber optics have made it possible for weapon systems to pass military tests.
Chinese officials have said the weapon could be used to suppress U.S. GPS and other satellite signals, according to the South China Morning Post.
Remarkably, the team of scientists claims that the total power of the beams could be greater than the sum of the individual beams, The Independent reported.
These weapons are intended for use in space and have no land, naval or atmospheric capabilities, the report added.
China has long coveted energy weapons.
Last year, it was revealed that the Chinese government was developing a weapon that would “destroy the brain.” This program was created to target foreign military personnel and government officials.
A senior researcher at the Institute of East Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore said the weapon could damage and even control the brains of mammals.
The communist nation once produced a prototype laser assault rifle that could incinerate targets up to 800 meters away.
