China Shows Military Strength in Complete Mock Blockade of Taiwan

China Conducts Military Exercises Around Taiwan

On Tuesday, China intensified military operations around Taiwan, marking the second day of a significant drill aimed at the island it claims. This exercise, termed “Justice Mission 2025,” features an unprecedented deployment of military assets, including various types of vehicles for the first time.

Reports indicate that this series of war games initiated without either the U.S. or Taiwan’s knowledge, raising concerns given the recent $11.1 billion arms deal between the U.S. and Taiwan. President Trump remarked on Monday that he was “not worried” about the exercises, noting that China has been conducting similar naval drills in the area for years.

Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-de expressed that Taiwan is committed to defending its freedoms amid coercion from China, noting that such military provocations disrupt global maritime and air traffic while undermining regional peace.

In a statement, Lai pointed out how China’s activities along the First Island Chain are concerning for many. However, he assured that Taiwan would act responsibly, avoiding escalating tensions yet not giving in to intimidation.

The Chinese state-controlled media commented on the military drills, claiming they are a response to Lai’s alleged independence pursuits and outside influence, which they argue jeopardize regional stability.

The exercises reportedly encompass extensive operations around Taiwan, including live artillery fire and utilize an array of military assets such as drones, missiles, and for the first time, a new type of amphibious assault ship.

It’s worth noting that past military actions from China have included the launch of missiles over Taiwan amidst escalating tensions, especially following significant visits from U.S. officials to the island. The recent military package from the U.S. is believed to further escalate the situation, as Chinese officials condemned it, stating it could lead to heightened military conflict.

Guo Jia-kun, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, warned that U.S. military support for Taiwan would only exacerbate tensions in the Strait and emphasized that such actions would be counterproductive in containing China.
