Chinese Influence on Panama Canal a ‘National Security Problem’

China's approach to the Panama Canal is a “national security issue,” Eric Prince, a military veteran and founder of Unplugged Technologies, said during an appearance on the show. Breitbart News Saturday.

“China exercised its soft power and effectively took over control of the Panama Canal, which the United States built over 100 years ago, but then foolishly abandoned by Jimmy Carter in 1978 or 1979,” Prince said. said. He began by calling this a “national security issue.''

“Because in the event of some kind of naval battle, you have to be able to move your fleet from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. The way to do that is through the Panama Canal. The time it takes to go around the southern tip of Chile is almost a month. You save money,” he continued.

Prince said it was “absolutely essential” that the U.S. securely monitor the canal for these very reasons.

“It's unacceptable to let China run the country,” he said, explaining that the issue of allowing China to take over affects the United States in many ways, pointing directly to the fentanyl crisis.

“As you know, the number of deaths that the Chinese have promoted with fentanyl was about 110,000 last year. The actual number [are] Between 300,000 and 400,000 Americans die from fentanyl overdose. So by comparison, a total of 400,000 people lost their lives in World War II, and now we're losing that every year to fentanyl,” he says, putting the staggering numbers into perspective. I did.

“And fentanyl is basically a super-concentrated drug mixed with other drugs,” he said, adding that in most cases, the drug is “organized, funded and promoted by the Chinese Communist Party, and is made with precursor chemicals.” “We are sending these to Venezuela and Mexico.” Now it’s been made into fentanyl and smuggled in,” he continued.

“In many cases, it's killing them instantly, so it pushes back on that type of subversion,” he added.
