Texas Congressman Chip Roy Announces Departure for Attorney General Race

Rep. Chip Roy, a Republican from Texas, revealed on Thursday that he will resign from Congress to embark on a new political journey within the Lone Star State.

Currently serving his fourth term in the House, Roy is officially kicking off his campaign to become Texas Attorney General. He made a statement about his stance to “Protect Texas on every turn.” His intention is to succeed the current Attorney General, Ken Paxton, who is pursuing a Senate seat.

“It’s time to draw a line in the sand.”

In a press release, Roy expressed his pride in representing Texas’ 21st Congressional District. “I said, it has been an honor,” he noted. “I take particular pride in our efforts to uphold President Trump’s agenda and to tackle corruption.” He also added, “I could do this job indefinitely and feel satisfied, but I believe that no representative should hold their position forever.”

Throughout his tenure, Roy has positioned himself as a staunch conservative, challenging norms not just from his opposition, but occasionally within his own party. He has consistently advocated for fiscal restraint, often taking on Republican leadership regarding major spending bills and ongoing funding measures.

Roy has placed emphasis on modifying immigration policies and curtailing excessive regulations, claiming, “Texas is under attack from politicians crossing the border, radical leftists, and anonymous foreign entities that jeopardize our sovereignty, security, and way of life.” His call to action reaffirms his commitment: “It’s time to draw a line in the sand.”

Looking ahead, he stated, “As Attorney General, I will advocate daily for our fundamental rights, our families, and the future of Texas. Those judges funded by Soros will no longer release criminals onto our streets. No more judges allowing taxpayers to foot the bill for illegal immigrants in our schools. We won’t allow any community to take root under the Sharia Act.”
