Proposed Legislation Targets Sharia Law Immigrants
Representative Chip Roy, a Republican from Texas, along with a group of fellow House Republicans, is advocating for a new bill aimed at prohibiting foreign nationals who adhere to Sharia law from entering the United States and removing those already residing in the country.
Roy expressed his concerns, stating, “America is facing an existential threat from the spread of Sharia law. From Texas to every state, those who follow Sharia law are undermining the American way of life, attempting to replace our legal frameworks and Constitution with an ideology that restricts the rights of women, children, and individuals of various faiths.” He noted that Europe serves as a warning, illustrating the negative consequences of Sharia law’s spread—what he refers to as the erosion of Western values. Roy stressed the need to strengthen America’s immigration policies to prevent the entrance of Sharia adherents, indicating that the preservation of the constitutional republic hinges on such measures.
In the proposal, it states that the Secretaries of State and Homeland Security, along with the Attorney General, should deny any immigration benefits or visas to individuals who comply with Sharia law. Furthermore, existing foreign nationals in the U.S. found to abide by Sharia law would have their immigration status revoked and could face deportation.
The bill also highlights that any alien who makes false representations regarding their compliance in relation to Sharia law could face similar penalties, including removal from the country.
Co-sponsoring the legislation are Republican representatives Randy Fine from Florida, Tim Burchett from Tennessee, and Keith Self from Texas. Other backers include Barry Moore of Alabama, Mary Miller of Illinois, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, Sheri Biggs of South Carolina, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Josh Brechin of Oklahoma, and Andrew Clyde from Georgia.
