Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Republicans need to come together after Easter and deliver results.
Roy said: “I very publicly and very loudly opposed the use of a motion to resign against Kevin McCarthy to my right-wing colleagues and everyone across the board. I did not agree with it. It was a mistake. Kevin actually honored most of the agreements we came up with. In fact, we had a bill that took 72 hours to read. You know? That was violated last week. Mike was wrong. We were actually working on a bill with amendments.”
He added: “You and I visited after the Chairman’s debate about 14 months ago and talked about what we were trying to change. We were actually implementing those things. Amendments. was being processed and a spending bill was being passed. Yes, I don’t completely agree with my Democratic colleagues, but then you should have gone to the Senate, they should have passed the bill. , and we should have conferenced them. That’s why Americans are questioning why their businesses and homes function, while in this godforsaken town they’re falling apart. They can control the budget. But in Washington, they just print money and hide in a corner and shoot each other.”
Roy added, “Look, I think Speaker Johnson, and I’ve been very public about this, made the mistake of walking away from CR with bipartisan members. “We could have put pressure on them to arrive at that point,” he added. That was a mistake. I do not believe this bill reflects the wishes of the American people. It expands government, increases spending, increases debt, doesn’t secure borders, doesn’t do what we’re supposed to do, promotes radical policies, and focuses our defense on mission rather than social engineering. I think you have to change them. ”
He concluded: “We better come together over Easter so we can serve the American people.”
