Chipper Jones Reacts to Braves’ Shocking Loss
Chipper Jones was astounded by the Atlanta Braves’ unsettling defeat against the Diamondbacks on Thursday.
The Hall of Famer had confidence that his old team would secure a win and avoid a three-game sweep, especially after leading by six runs going into the eighth inning.
“Today is a good day….9-3 good people!” Jones posted on X.
The Braves’ advantage seemed solid, leading Jones to take a midday nap.
However, he awoke to a shocking turn of events.
“OMG…9-3…Nak….11-10!” he expressed on social media.
Despite the comfortable 9-3 lead at the start of the eighth inning and being up 10-4 in the ninth, the Braves ultimately faced an 11-10 defeat due to a remarkable comeback by the Diamondbacks.
Arizona managed five hits, which included two home runs, and capitalized on five walks, stunning the Braves on their home turf.
At the beginning of the ninth inning, MLB.com reported that the Braves had a 99.9% chance of winning.
Before this game, the Diamondbacks had a dismal record of 0-419 in situations where they trailed by six or more runs with only eight or more innings played—something that hadn’t happened since July 17, 1973. Ironically, Jones was just a year old when the Braves last blew such a significant lead.
This defeat only compounds what has been a rough season for the Braves.
The loss marked the Braves’ fourth, placing their record at 27-34. Once seen as contenders for the World Series, the team now languishes in fourth place in the National League East.
