Charlaine McCray, the estranged wife of former Mayor Bill de Blasio, expressed surprise on Monday about her husband’s recent romantic escapades, including a relationship with a much younger progressive activist.
When she found out that de Blasio, 64, had dated Nomiki Const, a former Young Turks correspondent and out-of-state elected official, she reacted with a sympathetic “ah.” It sounded, well, almost relatable.
While speaking from her Brooklyn home, McCray said, “I don’t know anything. I don’t have the latest information, but I’m definitely going to know.” She seemed genuinely intrigued.
She added, “I can’t wait to read the article,” referring to The Sunday Post’s revelation about her estranged husband’s breakup with Const and his return to single life.
Though de Blasio and McCray separated in 2023, they maintained that they had no plans to divorce. Since their split, de Blasio has been seen engaging in flirtations at a bar and going out with another married woman.
Const, 41, and de Blasio made their relationship public in February, and they were recently spotted together at a “No Kings” rally wearing matching T-shirts.
Insiders say Const was left heartbroken by the end of their relationship, noting that she had been “really, really happy” until things took a turn for the worse.
Commenting on the affair allegations over the weekend, de Blasio remarked, “Nomiki and I have had a great relationship over the past 10 months. I have deep respect for her and what she stands for, and I hope we can build a true friendship in the future.”
Interestingly, Const has been instrumental in de Blasio’s recent attempts at rebranding, even influencing his decision to change that famously ridiculed hair color he sported after leaving office.
