Chocolate products recalled due to concealed drugs linked to serious drops in blood pressure

Federal health authorities have issued a nationwide recall for two chocolate products due to the presence of undeclared prescription drug ingredients.

The California-based company Gear Isle is recalling certain batches of its Gold Lion Aphrodisiac Chocolates and Ilumsex Chocolates after testing indicated the inclusion of sildenafil and tadalafil—both active components often associated with erectile dysfunction medications, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

These products were sold online across the United States and were promoted as dietary supplements.

The FDA has cautioned that these undeclared ingredients could lead to significant health risks, particularly for individuals who are also taking nitrate drugs for heart conditions.

This combination of substances can result in a sudden, potentially “life-threatening” drop in blood pressure, as emphasized by the FDA.

“Among adult men most likely to use these products, those on nitrates for heart issues are at the highest risk,” the agency noted.

The following items are specifically included in the recall:

  • Gold Lion Aphrodisiac Chocolate Male Enhancement Sachet (UPC: 795847916279, effective June 2027)
  • ilum sex chocolate male sexual enhancement booster (UPC: 1002448578911, effective December 25, 2027)

So far, Gear Isle has reported no adverse events associated with these products.

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled items immediately and to return them for a refund.

If anyone experiences symptoms, it is important to reach out to their healthcare provider.

This recall follows a similar action from earlier this month involving New Mexico-based Primal Supplement Group LLC, where its virility-enhancing product Volume was found to also contain sildenafil, according to the FDA.

Gear Isle has not responded to requests for comment regarding the situation.
