Choosing Kamala Harris over Joe Biden is a 'misstep'

Actor George Clooney has expressed that he believes Democrats erred in replacing President Joe Biden with Kamala Harris for the 2024 election.

Clooney mentioned during a CBS sunday morning segment that while he doesn’t regret Biden’s exit from the race, he thinks the party should have considered testing other candidates.

“We had an opportunity. As I noted in my op-ed, I wish there had been a primary. We needed to act quickly and assess our options. Kamala’s challenge was tough because she had to confront her own record. If the goal is to say, ‘I’m not that person,’ that’s a tricky situation. Really, I think it was a mistake,” he stated.

“But this is where we are now. They say we could lose more House seats. So I’m not sure. Not addressing this feels like, well, ‘not being honest,’” he added.

After Kamala Harris’s loss to Trump in the election, Democrats have pointed fingers at Trump for allegedly encouraging Biden to drop out. Reports later revealed that Clooney felt he had become a “scapegoat.” In a chat with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Clooney reiterated his defense of his choice.

“I’m not sure if it was bravery or not,” Clooney shared with Tapper. “But I viewed it as a citizen’s obligation.”

In his op-ed, Clooney admitted to sensing signs of cognitive decline in Biden during a fundraiser with former President Barack Obama, prior to Biden’s debate with Trump. Curiously, he didn’t call for Biden’s resignation until a shocking moment during that live debate. He told Tapper that he felt compelled to speak out.

“Seeing people on the street not seeking the truth made me realize it was time,” he remarked.

Clooney acknowledged that some individuals are still “angry” with him for writing the op-ed, especially since Vice President Kamala Harris not only lost the popular vote but also the Electoral College to Trump.
