Chris Christie praises Trump for 'owning up' to the DC crime response: 'No justification'

Chris Christie Supports Trump’s Crime-Fighting Initiative in D.C.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie commended President Donald Trump for his decisive measures aimed at reducing crime in Washington, D.C. During an appearance on Fox News with Brian Kilmeade, Christie noted that this move is not only timely but has been overdue for quite a while.

“It’s a federal city, and I believe the president has responsibilities here, especially regarding the lack of accountability on Joe Biden’s part,” Christie stated on Monday.

He added, “There’s no justification for allowing our capital to become overrun with crime.”

On Monday, Trump declared his intention to assume control of the metropolitan police department to address crime in the city. This followed his decision to enhance the National Guard’s presence and bolster federal law enforcement over the weekend.

At a press conference, Trump explained that the National Guard deployment aims to restore law, order, and public safety in D.C. He mentioned that the Metropolitan Police Department would operate under Attorney General Pam Bondy’s oversight to help combat crime.

This initiative comes on the heels of violent incidents involving former government employees in Logan Circle on August 3.

Despite often being critical of Trump, Christie described the current lawlessness as “embarrassing” and expressed hope for the success of the president’s plan, emphasizing that it would benefit both residents and visitors.

“People from all over the world travel to D.C. to witness the pinnacle of democracy. It’s truly disheartening when they see the state of the city,” he remarked.

Christie also discussed the race for the New Jersey governorship, asserting that Republican Jack Chattelle has a legitimate chance of beating Democratic candidate Miki Cheryl.

“The residents of New Jersey are really fed up with the dominance of a single party,” he noted.
