Chris Cuomo Claims Jake Tapper’s ‘Original Sin’ Book Hides Something ‘Much More Serious’

Cuomo Critiques New Book on Media Bias Against Trump

On Tuesday, Chris Cuomo, a host at News Nation, commented on the new book “Original Sin” by CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson. He claimed it serves to mask political bias in the media against former President Donald Trump.

The book contends that individuals close to President Biden are concealing the former president’s cognitive decline, which complicates media coverage. However, Cuomo asserts on his show that Biden’s decline is evident, and the media’s failure to cover it stems from a wish for Biden to defeat Trump, rather than ignorance.

Cuomo expressed, “As for Biden, you know my stance. Have you not seen or heard about his obvious decline? We’ve discussed it on News Nation. Is it still shocking? Now, we have a book discussing deception. I’ve known this; it’s not a secret, and I think you know it too.” The book, titled “The Original Sin,” accuses Biden’s team of trying to obscure their decline from both the public and the press.

He elaborated, “I think this book is hiding something deeper. It’s not just about Biden’s age. It’s a reality that many in the media were aware of Biden’s issues but chose to overlook it because they wanted Trump to lose.” He continued, “The original sin doesn’t just obscure Biden’s age; it reveals a bias in media preference.”

For years, corporate media have attempted to ignore Biden’s decline, especially leading into a crucial debate against Trump, dating as far back as the 2020 campaign, even as concerns from voters and Republicans surfaced.

Moreover, special advisor Robert Herr’s report, set for release in February 2024, suggests that Biden mishandled classified documents yet decided not to pursue charges against Trump. Herr mentioned challenges in persuading the judge, partly because of Biden’s portrayal as a “sympathetic and well-meaning older man.”

In response, corporate media defended Biden’s clarity. Critics pointed to Biden’s memory lapses—such as forgetting details during interviews about his tenure as vice president or the date of his son Beau’s death—as signs of his decline.

When clips showcasing Biden’s fitness surfaced in June, the White House dismissed them as “cheap fakes,” while media outlets debated the validity of the coverage.

Reports regarding Biden’s cognitive abilities have intensified, with some journalists addressing them more critically. Anonymously, a CNN reporter indicated a notable decline in Biden’s mental acuity.

Tapper himself acknowledged that he had not fully covered Biden’s decline in the past, reflecting on his approach during an interview to promote the book with a sense of humility.
