NewsNation host Chris Cuomo on Monday blasted the media and “politicians” for downplaying the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Cuomo's understanding of reality was made clear in an impassioned monologue at the beginning of his show of the same name. CuomoHe said he was troubled by “the response, and lack of response, to the second assassination attempt on President Trump in recent months,” and criticized those who claim that the suspected assassin, Ryan Wesley Routh, “didn't even fire a gun.”

“What if that was your father?” Cuomo asked. “Or what if that was Kamala Harris or President Biden? [Do] Do you think they’re going to just pretty much shrug their shoulders and say it’s crazy that this is happening in our country, with all this talk about the Secret Service and funding allocations?”
Cuomo stressed that President Trump was “held at AK-47” and criticized those who reacted by downplaying the significance of the most recent assassination attempt on him, including one in July in Balter, Pennsylvania, where a bullet nearly hit President Trump in the ear.

“This reaction is unacceptable. This is the second time the media and politicians have gotten away with downplaying what should be creating panic,” Cuomo said.
Cuomo said he couldn't think of anything to say on his show Monday so he decided to speak to Trump by phone.
“You can feel what you want about Mr. Trump, but not many people have been as vocal in their criticism of his behavior as I have,” Cuomo said, “and yet, I called him today because I am ashamed of our response, and inaction, to the threats made against him.”
Cuomo also criticized X owner Elon Musk for a now-deleted post he made on X Sunday saying, “And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala.”
“I believe in this guy, but he hasn't learned that deleting a tweet doesn't make it go away. It just shows that he knows what he said was stupid,” Cuomo said.
“It's foolish to suggest that Ms. Harris is being targeted,” he added.
