Coldplay Concert’s Kiss Cam Incident Sparks Controversy
Chris Martin addressed the audience during a Coldplay concert just days after astronomer CEO Andy Byron mistakenly linked him to the head of HR at his company.
“I want to say hi to some of you and put some on the big screen,” the singer said during Saturday’s show at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin. This was shared in a video online.
The way we show that is by using the camera to feature fans, Martin and another band member told the cheering crowd.
Martin, at 48, humorously remarked, “If you’re not wearing makeup, just put some on now.”
This followed an unexpected moment captured at a previous concert in Foxborough, Massachusetts, where he thought he was showing a cute couple on the kiss cam.
“Oh, look at these two,” he commented, watching the couple’s reaction on the big screen.
However, the pair quickly ducked out of view when they realized they were being broadcast. The man, identified as Byron, fell down, while the woman, Christine Cabot, covered her face and hurried away.
“They’re either cheating or very shy,” Martin quipped, trying to lighten the mood.
After they slipped away, Martin appeared somewhat vexed, telling fans, “I hope we didn’t do anything wrong.”
But soon after, he turned his attention to another couple, seemingly forgetting his earlier embarrassment. He playfully asked if they were a couple, hinting at the previous awkward moment.
The incident gained traction online, which led to Byron’s wife, Megan Kerrigan Byron, changing her last name on Facebook before deleting her account altogether.
It was revealed that Andy began his role as CEO of the astronomers company in July 2023 in the midst of these happenings. Following a divorce, Cabot took a job with the firm in November 2024.
Before the kiss cam controversy, Andy had praised Cabot’s professional skills in a company press release, encouraging her leadership and focus on employee engagement.
He described her as a strong leader, emphasizing the importance of nurturing diverse work environments.
Meanwhile, Cabot outlined her intentions in a press release, expressing how pivotal people strategies are for effective business operations.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Byron has found himself under scrutiny; reports suggest he has had previous issues at a former workplace that led to investigations.
The latest incident continues to unfold as further details emerge.
