Democrat Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut reported on Wednesday that former President Biden showed signs of cognitive decline during his time in office.
“I’m confident in that assessment,” Murphy stated when asked by Politico whether he believed Biden’s mental fitness deteriorated throughout his presidency.
He added, “The real question is whether that decline significantly affected his ability to perform as a leader.”
Concerns regarding Biden’s mental acuity frequently emerged during his presidency but gained more attention last summer after the debates with President Trump.
Murphy mentioned Biden’s remarks, suggesting he wouldn’t face another setback in the White House. He remarked, “Isn’t that a bit trivial? We lost.” He reflected that, in hindsight, different strategies might have been beneficial, noting the public’s demand for change that neither Biden nor Harris effectively addressed.
This report from Politico surfaces amid renewed scrutiny of Biden’s cognitive health, especially with the upcoming book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson titled “The Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Cover-up and the Disastrous Choice of Running Again.” An excerpt reveals that Biden, during a fundraiser prior to exiting the 2024 race, failed to recognize actor George Clooney.
The Hill attempted to contact Biden’s representatives for comments from both him and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
