Age can haunt us all, but never has it been more evident than watching Chris Paul receive one of the most pathetic introductions in basketball in the NBA: CP3 as DeMar DeRozan was given a hero’s welcome in Sacramento.
There are many things to be grateful for in this sad announcement, including the fact that it was made at 5:30pm on a Sunday during a holiday weekend, and the fact that no one took a photo of Paul in a Spurs uniform or Photoshopped him into it.
It just keeps getting better, with the 2023 Media Day photos hastily placed against a gray background with a drop shadow like a 1994 trading card. Finally, there’s a “Welcome to San Antonio” graphic, which feels like the default template for a Windows 95 version of Microsoft Powerpoint.
There was a time when signing Chris Paul was a big deal and sparked big celebrations, but now he doesn’t even get a decent social media photo, though it’s still better than when the Warriors photographed him next to a trash can.
Unfortunately, CP3 has now officially been downgraded to CP2.
