The Palisades Fire has been extinguished, but a new wildfire, the Hughes Fire, broke out on Wednesday, forcing thousands of area residents to evacuate. Cal Fire said the concentration was 14%.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of the Palisades fire, but say hurricane-force winds and drought-like conditions helped the fire spread. The National Weather Service said the region has received less than 10% of its average rainfall since October. The Palisades Fire burned 23,000 acres. Another fire, the Eaton Fire, broke out on the same day and burned 14,000 acres. The two fires were about 30 miles apart.
