Christian Barmore speaks out about mysterious Patriots benching

Christian Barmore’s Bench Time Explained

Christian Barmore was notably quiet during the game, remaining on the bench for the entire first quarter as the Patriots secured a 32-13 victory over the Browns on Sunday due to disciplinary reasons.

When reporters approached him on Wednesday, Barmore said, “Moving on to the next question. Let’s focus on the Falcons.” He acknowledged, however, that the situation was “escalating,” though he refrained from sharing specific details on what led to his punishment.

He mentioned maintaining a good relationship with head coach Mike Vrabel, stating, “That’s my guy, of course.”

Barmore is currently in the second year of a four-year, $83 million contract extension he signed in 2024.

After the game, Vrabel provided little insight into Barmore’s disciplinary issue but emphasized the need to protect team values. “A decision had to be made,” he said. “If there’s any action that I feel is out of proportion, I have to make a decision and we move forward.”

Barmore chose to stay silent post-game, only addressing the media days later. Despite sitting out the first quarter, he managed to register four quarterback pressures and one tackle, playing a total of 30 snaps.

At the end of the game, the two were seen sharing a hug in the tunnel as they headed to the locker room.

Vrabel commented on the situation during an interview, stating, “Like everything else, whether it’s life or whatever, we’ve moved on and worked on it. There’s no problem with me or anyone else moving forward.”

The Patriots drafted Barmore in the second round of the 2021 draft, and this season is his first under Vrabel’s leadership.
