Call for Immigration Pathways for Jewish Canadians
A coalition of Christian lawmakers, religious leaders, and civic organizations is urging President Trump to establish a legal immigration route for Jewish Canadians, amid rising concerns about antisemitism in Canada.
On Sunday, Trump shared a report from Just the News on Truth Social regarding this proposal.
In a letter sent to the President, the National Association of Christian Lawmakers (NACL) and their partners requested that the U.S. State Department and Department of Homeland Security create “lawful, secure and appropriately expedited pathways” for Jewish Canadian nationals and their families.
The letter stated, “For generations, America has served as a refuge for people fleeing religious persecution. We urge you to ensure that, consistent with federal law and the security interests of the United States, that door remains open to our Jewish brothers and sisters in Canada who need it today.”
Signers of the letter pointed out an increase in harassment and violence against Jewish communities in Canada, especially following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Jason Rapert, NACL founder and President, along with over 50 legislators and community leaders, signed the letter addressed to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and members of Congress.
Rapert also noted that Canada has reported nearly 7,000 antisemitic incidents among its roughly 41 million residents, while the U.S., with a population of over 342 million, had fewer than 6,300 reported incidents.
The letter expressed, “These numbers represent more than statistics. They represent families who increasingly question whether they can safely send their children to Jewish schools, worship openly, display their faith publicly, or continue building their lives in communities where they no longer feel secure.”
On Sunday morning, Rapert emphasized on Fox News the importance of Trump directly discussing concerns with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, particularly regarding barriers for Jewish Canadians seeking relocation.
“We will find out” if Canada is hindering the process for the over 2,000 Jewish Canadians interested in moving, Rapert stated.
“Trump should ask Carney right now,” he added. “Canada should be embarrassed and ashamed of these perceived roadblocks. And we’re trying to rally leaders to take a stand.”
The coalition also recognized Trump for his commitment to combating antisemitism and supporting religious freedoms in the U.S.
The letter concluded, “Religious liberty must be more than a principle we proclaim; it must be a principle we are willing to defend.”
