Forrest Frank, a prominent figure in Christian music, has decided to stop attending award ceremonies, believing that all glory should be directed to God rather than himself.
The artist known for “You Way’s Better” was nominated for multiple GMA Dove Awards this season but informed fans that he wouldn’t be present at Tuesday’s event.
Last week, he shared on social media that he was uncertain about accepting the Music to Praise God award.
“As a Christian artist, I sometimes reflect on how I present myself. I dress like the world, I fit in with the world, and even my music can sound worldly. So where do we draw the line?” he stated online. “I believe I draw that line at not taking home awards meant for honoring Jesus.”
Frank mentioned that he had been pondering this dilemma for about a year.
“I’m not sure I want to be on stage or even in that environment anymore. I’ve made the decision to not attend events like the Dove Awards or the Grammys,” he elaborated.
Frank, who recently encouraged those celebrating Charlie Kirk’s assassination to reconnect with Jesus, added that for him, his true “trophy” lies in the “book of life.”
“What use is a piece of metal compared to that?” he questioned.
His announcement drew mixed reactions. Notably, fellow musician Jelly Roll poked fun at Frank’s choice.
“I’m not going to accept a trophy from Jesus for Jesus, but I’m all for gaining benefits from Jesus for Jesus. Maybe I’m just not getting it,” said Jelly Roll, the artist behind “Son of a Sinner,” according to reports.
Jelly Roll (real name Jason Bradley Deford), who won Song of the Year for “Hard Fight Hallelujah” at this year’s GMA Awards, passionately invoked Jesus during his acceptance speech.
“People are hearing about Jesus now like never before,” he remarked. “There’s a revival taking place in America, and you can’t walk down the street without encountering discussions about Jesus. I urge everyone to put their faith into action and step beyond these walls.”
Frank was gracious in congratulating Jelly Roll on his success, writing, “Congratulations brother!! Keep going for Jesus.”
