Christian Watson had quite an eventful evening on Thursday.
The standout wide receiver for the Packers racked up six catches and 100 yards in just the first half. However, things took a turn in the second quarter when he suffered a serious hit from two defenders from the Panthers, leading to an ambulance ride to the hospital.
Surprisingly, about an hour later, Watson made his way back to Lambeau Field and was back on the field, contributing to Green Bay’s 27-19 victory over Carolina.
“Honestly, it was tough. I never wanted to go [to the hospital],” Watson shared with Prime Video after the game. “I was really hoping to be allowed to stay. I mentioned I was feeling better after I caught my breath, but they saw a couple of signs that made them decide I needed to go over there. Honestly, I just want to be on the football field. I’m really grateful I was able to return.”
Watson reported that he passed all the necessary tests at the hospital and there was no internal bleeding. He even kept up with the game thanks to one of the doctors.
“They checked for internal bleeding and everything was clear, even though I was spitting a bit of blood initially,” Watson explained about the medical evaluation that cleared him. “They just wanted to ensure nothing serious was going on.”
“One of the doctors had his phone out, and I was following the play-by-play. I couldn’t actually watch, but kept an eye on the updates. I saw [Michael Golden’s] touchdown and I got really hyped. Then Josh Jacobs scored, and I thought, ‘Alright, we’re making progress.’ It was a bit quiet after that since I was left alone for a little while, but eventually, they came back in and said, ‘You’re good to go. Let’s head back.’ And that was that.”
After his brief hospital visit, Watson added two more catches with 13 additional yards, helping Green Bay improve to a 5-3 record.
