A TikTok user recently revealed that he was fired from his job at Starbucks because of his Christian values, and is now speaking out about it.

Taylor Trice, who posts videos under the handle @edbl22, spoke to Fox News Digital on Wednesday about retiring in 2022. She explained that she was first interested in working at Starbucks because it offered tuition assistance for her online program at Arizona State University.

“Before I worked at Starbucks, I didn’t know anything about it other than that it was considered a bougie coffee shop,” Trice explained in an interview. “So I didn’t know it was a very liberal company.”

In her TikTok video, which has received nearly 53,000 likes, the former barista said the work-related issue stemmed from a disagreement over how to celebrate Pride Month at Starbucks stores. .

“I was used to Starbucks having decorations and things like that in June,” she said. “However, this year we were a little over the other side of the rainbow and things were starting to turn sour instead of sweet.”

Trice told Fox that she was concerned about adult content being featured on coffee shop displays during Pride Month. At the time, she was working at a Starbucks cafe in Apex, North Carolina.

Trice said several colleagues agreed that a glass wall explaining different sexual orientations was not family-friendly. Another aspect of his Pride Month display was a chalkboard containing peripheral pronouns such as ze/zim, xe/xum, and even it/its.

”[These] Less common, but still valid,” the blackboard said. “You can always mix and match!”

Trice said management “became very defensive” when she respectfully voiced her concerns, even if she had no malicious intent.

“I gave them a warning, like, ‘This can be taken the wrong way, so please be careful,'” Trice said. “We have families and children coming here and they will read it. But writing it on a glass wall is probably not the best thing to display in public.”

Other issues arose surrounding the enforcement of Starbucks’ preferred pronoun policy. The young Christian explained that he would call his customers by name and avoid using certain pronouns as a sign of respect, but that using the “wrong” pronouns was against his conscience.

“I take my faith seriously and try to be as much like Jesus as I can,” she said. “According to my beliefs, you should not lie.”

“I’m happy to call you by your first name and I’ll avoid using pronouns you don’t want me to use, but it goes against my faith to lie and say…if someone is male then female ” Or if someone is a man or a woman. ”

Trice recalled a manager contacting her to say a customer had complained about her. The night before she was fired, she had a precognitive dream about losing her job.

“I’ve had complaints like, ‘Oh, I feel like she’s not happy with my identity,’ and I don’t understand that because I talk to everyone there all the time,” she told FOX News Digital. told. “I have never insulted them or anything.”

Trice added that she hopes her former manager and former colleagues bear no ill will, and reported that she has received an outpouring of support since sharing her story online.

“I received a lot of support and I was so grateful to see that I wasn’t alone in my way of thinking,” she explained.

“Of course, there was some backlash…but it was very refreshing to know that I wasn’t alone in how I viewed this situation and how I viewed the words of the Bible.”
