Christian Editors Today I apologized Controversial articles during Holy Week undermined the explanation of the Bible of Crucifixion.
This article theorized that Roman soldiers might have stuck Jesus Christ on the cross with ropes rather than claws. The proposal was vehemently opposed by Christian online who pointed out that the theory was against biblical errors.
“In my zeal to explore the historical context of Christ’s death, I missed it, and I’m sorry.”
This article is based on a paper published in an academic journal by Bible scholar Jeffrey P. Arroyo Garcia. Theories rely on accounts in John’s Gospels, written in the second half of the first century and, more importantly, forged.
After rage from many corners of Christianity, news editor Daniel Silliman apologised and explained what led to the article.
“Like so many Christians, I spent a lot of time before Easter thinking about crucifixion. How Jesus died like that, how God chose this particular device of Roman fear to achieve our salvation, and how it actually worked to kill someone, and Silliman writes.
He went on to admit that he missed the importance of the account from the Gospel of John.
“My article implicitly questioned the errors of the Bible. In my enthusiasm to explore the historical context of Christ’s death, I missed it, and I am sorry,” concluded Silliman.
This article has been updated with an amendment related to the apology.
“This article was revised to clarify that the Bible, including the Gospel of John, shows that Jesus was crucified with a nail and that Christianity today, along with Christian scholars and theologians, has affirmed that correction throughout the history of the Church,” the amendments state.
Some people praised the mistake and praised the public apology.
