Schumer Questioned on Support for Mamdani
Senator Chuck Schumer from New York faced questions from CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday regarding his lack of support for Zohran Mamdani, a candidate for New York City mayor. Bash pointed out that Mayor Eric Adams has been asked multiple times about his stance on supporting Mamdani. She pressed Schumer, asking directly whether he backs the candidate.
In a recent social media post, Governor Kathy Hochul expressed her endorsement of Mamdani. Similarly, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is reportedly in talks with Mamdani about potential support for his campaign as a socialist candidate, as noted by a Sunday report.
Schumer told Bash that he intends to continue discussions with Mamdani, making it clear that he is not ready to fully endorse yet.
Questions Arise Over Support
“What’s the delay?” Bash inquired during the interview. Schumer responded, reiterating his commitment to keep talking with Mamdani.
Bash also raised concerns about the possibility that supporting a democratic socialist could harm the Democratic Party’s image. Schumer again repeated his intention to maintain his conversations with Mamdani.
Criticism from Fellow Democrats
Additionally, Van Hollen pointed out that the party has become too cautious in its approach, suggesting that overly careful politics might alienate voters.
Requests for comments from Mamdani’s campaign remained unanswered as of the report’s publication.
