Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday at a rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has become a “proud member of Hamas.”
Trump criticized Schumer for abandoning Israel and refusing to shake hands with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a Capitol Hill visit last week.
He said:
A week ago, the prime minister of Israel, our closest ally in the Middle East, came to address Congress. You saw it. Instead of sending a clear signal that the United States will never abandon its allies, its very important allies, Ms. Kamala chose to politicize the occasion, to overplay it, to pretend not to attend. You know where she was? She was at a sorority party. Can you believe it? Even though it was her duty as President of the Senate to be there. It was her duty to be there. Her Democratic allies complied. Chuck Schumer refused to shake hands with the Israeli prime minister. Chuck Schumer became a Palestinian. Yes, he became a Palestinian. Can you believe it? He became a proud member of Hamas. Nancy Pelosi denounced the speech in similarly shameful terms.
Breitbart News reported that Schumer did in fact shake Netanyahu’s hand in private, but refused to do so in public.
Schumer then lied, claiming that he had ignored Netanyahu on principle.
Democrats have shifted left on the issue of Israel in an attempt to win over Muslim voters in the battleground state of Michigan, but there are also large pro-Israel Jewish voters in other battleground states, notably Pennsylvania.
