Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer mentioned his direct collaboration with Zoran Mamdani and observed the Democratic Party’s growing momentum as the party’s internal dynamics shift following the recent mayoral election in New York.
Chad Pergram, a Senior Congressional Correspondent, shared that Schumer spoke about this on social media.
Earlier today, I had a productive conversation with Mayor-elect Mamdani. We both expressed our commitment to New York City and looked forward to working together for its betterment. I congratulated him on a successful campaign. His key issues resonate with Democrats nationwide, especially regarding the costs incurred from the Trump administration and the stagnant progress we’re facing.

However, Schumer hasn’t released a comprehensive written statement about Mamdani yet. The only recent post from him simply mentioned that last night, Democrats declared having achieved “overwhelming victories in statewide and local elections across the country,” in places like New Jersey, Virginia, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. They indicated that “Americans are tired of failed Republican policies” and emphasized their push to reduce costs.
Progressive groups asserted that Mamdani’s win signifies a pivotal moment for the Democrats. Our Revolution, founded by Bernie Sanders, stated late Tuesday that Mamdani’s focus on affordability has outmaneuvered Trump and the established Democratic leaders, claiming that figures like Chuck Schumer are “losing relevance.”
Look — “Look what happened!” Mike Johnson comments on the future of the Democratic Party.
A national survey released earlier found that 52% of participants disapproved of Schumer’s performance, while only 23% approved.
In late October, Schumer hesitated to directly comment on his voting intention for Mamdani. Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries endorsed him, stressing the need for party unity and highlighting Mamdani’s commitment to addressing the affordability crisis for all New Yorkers.
Breitbart News, on October 21, suggested that Schumer was “gone” and implied that Mamdani might become the new Democratic leader. They criticized the Democrats for moving from socialism towards communism and flagged Schumer’s polling numbers as indicative of his potential political demise. President Trump chimed in, asserting that the far-left has taken over, implying a lack of leadership within the Democratic Party.
