Reds’ New Uniforms Draw Mixed Reactions

Major League Baseball teams are rolling out new uniforms, referred to as the “City Connect” collection. Some are definitely better than others—I’m a Reds fan, so trust me when I say the recent get-up for the Cincinnati Reds left much to be desired. It’s honestly painful to be a Reds supporter; they haven’t won a playoff series since 1995, which was ages ago, right?

This past Saturday, the Reds honored their newest Hall of Fame inductees, including Brandon Phillips and Lou Piniella, dressing them in what many are calling the worst uniforms in the team’s history. And keep in mind, this franchise isn’t exactly known for stylish threads—think sleeveless jerseys from back in the day.

So, if you’re prone to eye discomfort, you might want to look away for a moment. I mean, seriously, what were they thinking with this design? The logo is just massive and clunky. There are pinstripes, but they’re so subtle they almost feel like an afterthought. It’s as if the designer was asked to create something truly hideous.

There’s no misinterpreting this uniform; it’s a light red set featuring pinstriping and dark red sleeves—yes, they’re sticking with this look for a while. Can you believe it?

According to the Reds’ official website, they tout the design as a fan favorite, despite its questionable aesthetics. They state that the pinstriping is a classic element returning for a “new generation.” But, let’s be honest, the nostalgia doesn’t exactly justify this modern take.

While there’s chatter about the New York Yankees possibly introducing alternate uniforms, I think the Reds should take a step back and embrace something more traditional. After all, they hold the title of the oldest MLB team. A classic uniform would do them good. I know, I sound like an old-timer, but simplicity is key here.

Let’s just hope they can soon return to something resembling their iconic Reds uniform—leave the “modern” ideas for another day.
