Queens Council Members Urge Self-Defense Measures After Home Invasion

In light of a shocking home invasion incident, city council members in Queens are calling on residents to consider arming themselves. This comes after a horrifying event where Amazon drivers reportedly tied up a family and stole thousands of dollars in cash and valuables.

Republican council member Vicki Palladino expressed her support for the residents of her district in Whitestone, where the robbery occurred. “New Yorkers have a constitutional right to defend themselves,” she emphasized in a statement.

Palladino encouraged her constituents to exercise their rights under the Second Amendment. “My office is here to help anyone looking to obtain firearm permits for either facilities or concealed carry,” she added on Tuesday.

This call for action coincided with the NYPD’s release of surveillance footage showing two suspects—one in a baseball cap carrying Amazon boxes, and another wearing a bright yellow vest—walk through a quiet residential area.

According to police reports, the masked intruder forced his way into a home around 9 AM, binding the family, including three children, before stealing cash and jewelry.

Palladino reassured the community by stating, “The NYPD shows that there is no ongoing threat to the community.” She firmly declared, “Let me be clear: there is no violence in Whitestone or in our district.”

Residents, however, are expressing concerns. Many have noted that home invasions seem to be becoming more prevalent in the area. One local, a 37-year-old woman who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned that her home was targeted six months ago, fortunately when no one was present. “I don’t think it’s random. I believe people are keeping an eye on the neighborhood,” she remarked.

Another neighbor echoed her sentiments, adding that a similar break-in occurred at his home about six months prior. It appears this problematic trend is leaving many feeling uneasy.

While speaking to the Post, one resident asserted, “You have to protect yourself. It’s your life that matters. Bad people, they’ll never be caught.”

The 109th District, covering Whitestone, has reported 99 robberies so far this year. The search for the latest robbery suspect remains ongoing.

Palladino concluded with a strong message of vigilance: “The safety of our neighborhood is my top priority. I refuse to stay silent while violence threatens our community.”
