A California city councilman was called out by a gay bar owner for urinating on the door and getting into an argument with the manager.
The bizarre episode early Saturday morning was captured on surveillance video in downtown Los Angeles shortly after bars closed.
Jeremy Lucido, Broadway Branch Manager; He told KABC TV. He claimed that the two men walked outside the bar with alcoholic drinks and accused them of going to the bar’s employee entrance.
“As I was walking down the sidewalk to my car, I noticed two men who were intoxicated with cocktails,” Lucido said. “I recognized the glasses at our bar, so I knew what was in them. I said, ‘Oh my god! I can’t drink in here,’ and went to get one of the cups, and a tall… A man pushed me.” It was just me and I flew back. ”
Lucido said a check of surveillance video showed two men urinating on the door before confronting him. He posted a video of their act on the bar’s official Instagram account, which garnered more than 1,000 comments.
Some commenters identified one of the men as Chris Kilpatrick, who held an elected position on the Crescenta Valley City Council.
“The comments quickly multiplied with different stories, other parties, party organizers, bar managers, people saying, ‘Oh, I know these guys,'” Lucido added. Ta.
Kilpatrick’s attorney, John Duran, defended Kilpatrick’s actions, arguing that Lucido failed to disclose that he was an employee of the bar. The councilor added that he believed he was about to be assaulted because of his sexual identity and that he acted in self-defense.
The attorney also pointed out that public urination is not a crime in Los Angeles.
“This is a violation under the Los Angeles City Code, and you may be subject to a fine for this violation,” the attorney added.
“Battery is a misdemeanor that involves unlawful contact exhibited by the individual who initially grabbed my client. Pushing back is an affirmative defense if done to protect themselves or others,” Duran said. I concluded.
Lucido said she didn’t know the man was an elected official when she posted the video and just wanted to call out the wrongdoing.
