CJ Stroud Reflects on Athleticism and Health at 24
CJ Stroud, the quarterback for the Houston Texans, has just turned 24, but he’s already feeling the impact of playing in the NFL. Recently, he was asked about how he maintains his health as part of his daily routine.
During the discussion, he talked about his diet and the importance of exercise, but then he made an intriguing comment about how his current athletic ability compares to when he was a standout in high school.
Stroud shared that while he’s improved in certain areas, like diet and flexibility, he senses he may have lost some explosiveness. “I think my diet is better now, and my stretching too, but I definitely feel like I’m not as fast as I used to be,” he noted. He reminisced about his high school days, saying, “I was around 180 pounds and really quick back then; it’s different now.”
Drafted second overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Stroud currently weighs in at 220 pounds, an increase of 40 pounds since his high school days. While there’s debate about whether his athleticism is declining, the overall performance of quarterbacks seems to be on the rise since his impressive rookie season.
This season, he has thrown four touchdowns and three interceptions in four games. Last year, Stroud completed the season with 3,727 yards, along with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
His rookie year was stellar, ending with 4,108 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and just five interceptions, helping the Texans make the playoffs both years he’s been in the league.
As of now, Houston holds a 1-3 record as they approach Week 5, with their next game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
