Rep. Mciver Discusses Controversial Incident at Detention Facility
On Tuesday, Rep. Lamonica Mciver (D-NJ) appeared on CNN’s “News Central” and described allegations against him regarding a confrontation at the Delaney Hall Ice Detention Facility in Newark, New Jersey, as “absurd.” He emphasized that he was present to collaborate with colleagues, stating, “I’ve done this before. This is an explanation of our work.”
Mciver expressed his frustration, saying, “I think the fees are ridiculous. You know, it’s ridiculous. It didn’t happen easily. They had every opportunity not to allow this. It was very unnecessary.” He highlighted that they were there to fulfill their duties, adding, “And if I were to be charged with a crime to do my job, I’ll just talk about where we’re headed in this country and what we’re dealing with here as lawmakers.”
He also mentioned, “The Justice Department and Alina Haba wanted to admit that I didn’t do. I wasn’t going to do that. Once again, I came there to work and do an oversight visit,” reiterating his commitment to his responsibilities.
