Clarifying the Charlie Kirk Israel Debate: Andrew Kolvet Provides the Facts

The shocking murder of Charlie Kirk last September has sparked various conspiracy theories, with some suggesting links to Israel. Kirk, known for his pro-Israel stance, appears to be reassessing his support following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. This shift has led to speculation about potential Israeli involvement in his assassination.

So, what is the actual position of Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA regarding Israel?

During a recent episode of “Rufo and Romes,” co-host Jonathan Keeperman spoke with Andrew Corbett, the executive producer of “The Charlie Kirk Show” and a spokesperson for TPUSA, to explore this matter.

“The issue with Israel has probably been one of the most challenging aspects of Charlie’s journey,” Corbett noted.

He elaborated that Charlie maintained a clear boundary around Israel, stating, “Jew-hatred has no place in the conservative movement” and that scapegoating entire nations is an “ancient evil” that should not be tolerated.

However, Charlie was not aligned with the more hardline pro-Israel activists who demand uncritical support for every action taken by Israel. Corbett mentioned that this sometimes led to Charlie being labeled as anti-Semitic.

He highlighted that the core of the Trump-era conservative movement, which Charlie significantly influenced, has been characterized by a stance of “non-interventionism.”

“Charlie was definitely a key supporter of that. He wanted the focus to be on domestic issues,” Corbett explained. But he was careful not to make a small country in the Middle East a scapegoat for the world’s problems.

Following the October 7 Hamas attack, keeping this balanced perspective has become increasingly challenging. Many conservatives, who were already non-interventionists, saw the situation in Gaza as supporting their skepticism towards Israel.

“It’s an illustration of how our biases are influenced by current events,” Corbett remarked.

The ongoing conflict reinforced the perception that U.S.-Israel relations are pulling America into international conflicts, complicating Charlie’s moderate stance. “This is a tough situation,” Corbett admitted. “But to maintain our coalition, clear statements need to be made.”

“First off, we prioritize America First. Our interests take precedence over Israel’s. That’s essential for any American,” he emphasized, while also acknowledging valid concerns regarding Israeli actions, including espionage and the hefty annual aid the U.S. provides.

“These are important considerations. We must prioritize our own issues first,” he said.

However, if American interests happen to align with those of Israel, Corbett views that as beneficial.

“For instance, regarding Hamas, we shouldn’t equate the two sides. There is no moral equivalence,” he stated. “Yet, we must acknowledge pressing domestic matters that require our attention. If we fail to do this, we risk losing our country, and the Western world could face serious consequences.”

He expressed concern that divisions within conservatism about Israel are influencing Charlie’s narrative.

In the end, Corbett asserts that TPUSA stands for two essential principles: rejecting Jew-hatred and focusing on American interests before addressing foreign policy and geopolitics.
