Clash at Brooklyn expo occurs as anti-Israel activist uses pepper spray

Dramatic footage from Monday night captured a confrontation in Brooklyn between supporters of Israel and an anti-Israel protester wearing a keffiyeh. This incident followed a similar clash that unfolded just a week prior.

The video, recorded outside the Young Israel Synagogue, depicts a chaotic environment, with both groups facing off on the sidewalk. Meanwhile, anti-Israel protesters filled the street, some waving flags associated with Palestine and Hezbollah.

The NYPD reported that four individuals were taken into custody after the disturbance around 6:45 p.m. In the clip, a pro-Israel individual was seen raising his fist in front of a crowd, most of whom held signs with anti-Israel sentiments. At one point, someone used pepper spray against the protesters.

The clashes were ignited by protestors opposing the Great Israel Real Estate Event, an expo intended to promote real estate opportunities in Israel, which these demonstrators argue represent property on “stolen land” within “occupied” Palestinian territories.

According to reports, the mob was organized by the Palestine Liberation Assembly al-Awda, based in New York and New Jersey, which advocates for the “decolonization of Palestine.”

As the confrontation escalated, video showed at least one anti-Israel agitator being arrested by the NYPD after a scuffle that ended with the individual being forcibly taken to the ground.

Protesters chanted slogans such as “Brick by brick, wall by wall, Zionism falls” and “Liberate Palestine,” as reported by local news sources.

During the protest, organizer Taher Dahle of the Palestinian Youth Movement stated, “We’re here today to send a message to the city and the organizers that this type of event cannot and will not be held in New York City.”

Similar demonstrations also took place at an expo the week before.

A new ordinance passed in New York City in March restricts protests near houses of worship. The New York City House of Worship Act authorizes police to establish perimeter zones to safeguard worshippers. The law came into effect in April, with the NYPD planning to present a formal implementation plan to Mayor Zoran Mamdani and the City Council soon.

At the time of reporting, neither Mayor Mamdani’s office nor the NYPD had commented on the incidents.
