Class President Faces 300 Felony Charges in 'Sextortion' Scheme

Pennsylvania Suburb Shocked by High School Student’s Criminal Charges

A suburb of Pennsylvania is reeling after a senior student—who is reportedly the class president and a varsity athlete—has been indicted on numerous felony charges for allegedly orchestrating an extensive catfishing and sexual extortion operation.

Zachariah Abraham Myers, an 18-year-old from Peters Township, a semi-rural community about 15 miles southwest of Pittsburgh with a population of 23,000, faces 304 charges. These range from child sexual exploitation and abuse to unlawful contact with a minor and violations of wiretapping laws, as reported by local news sources over the weekend.

“Catfishing” refers to creating a deceptive online persona to target individuals, while “sextortion” involves obtaining intimate images from victims and using those to demand money or favors.

Peters Township, known for its attractive community features—including highly rated schools, prevalent home ownership, and a median income exceeding $140,000—finds itself at the center of this alarming story.

Authorities indicate that Myers used photos of others to mislead his victims, even posing as a Dutch adult film actress. “Myers managed to persuade young males to send him explicit pornographic images and videos of themselves,” law enforcement officials stated in their report.

It’s alleged that Myers targeted students aged 14 to 17 at Peters Township High School across various social media platforms, including Snapchat and TikTok, with about 1,200 students enrolled from grades 9 to 12.

One particularly disturbing incident involved Myers directing a boy to engage in sexual acts with two adult men, record the interactions in a gym locker room, and then send those videos to him.

Residents are in disbelief. “It scares me,” said Kim Bonifield, 59, a local resident. Another mother expressed shock, remarking, “I had no idea this was happening in my backyard.”

A message from the school district to families noted, “The entire Peters Township Schools community is deeply saddened and troubled by the recent events. Incidents like this can be very unsettling for students, staff, and families.”

A report in the local publication revealed that at least 14 teenagers sent explicit photos after being contacted by accounts linked to Myers, many of which used variations of the name “Claire Mauve.” This account encouraged some boys to shift their conversations to Telegram, a popular messaging platform.

The criminal complaint alleged that Myers compelled one teenager to secretly record a video in the wrestling locker room on multiple occasions, victimizing other boys who didn’t even know they were being filmed.

Reportedly, the victim told authorities that Myers claimed he needed something to “keep his silence.” The same teenager was also pushed by Myers to engage in sexual acts with two adult men.

Demands for $500 gift cards were issued to other teens, threatening to send compromising images to their families if the demands weren’t met.

Myers is currently held without bail at the Washington County Jail, with a preliminary hearing set for Friday, according to local reports.
