Hillary Clinton Calls for Nationwide “No Kings” Protests
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged her supporters on Thursday to participate in nationwide “No Kings” protests against the Trump administration.
“In the next two days, join us in the largest peaceful protest movement in modern American history,” Clinton posted on X, including a link for registration to the event.
She went on to say, “Join No Kings at an event near you this Saturday to prevent President Trump from assuming power and to emphasize that we are not a monarchy.”
The progressive group Indivisible has announced plans for a protest expecting around 2,000 attendees this Saturday. Demonstrations are set to happen in various cities, including Los Angeles, Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, Atlanta, New Orleans, Kansas City, Missouri, and Bozeman, Montana. The protests have also gained traction in Canada and even in the Mexican city of Madrid.
Republican lawmakers have criticized these events, labeling them as “Hate America” rallies.
This weekend’s protests occur amid a charged atmosphere with a federal government shutdown and federal actions addressing crime and immigration in various cities.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is encouraging its members to step out during this shutdown, especially in light of the administration’s threats regarding job cuts and lack of back pay.
Clinton expressed her disdain for Trump’s actions during his second term. She previously lost the 2016 presidential election to him.
She has criticized Trump for the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey and for his support of firing late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.
“We have to laugh about this so we don’t cry, because what’s happening is so opposed to the ideals and values this country was built on,” she said in a September MSNBC appearance.
“The First Amendment is the First Amendment because the founders of this nation experienced life under absolute power, where they were told what to say and what not to say. We must resist that,” she added.
Interestingly, in recent weeks, she has also acknowledged some of Trump’s actions, particularly regarding his intervention in the Middle East conflict between Israel and Hamas, as well as his forceful stance against Russia during its war in Ukraine.
