In an unusual twist, two men from Hayward were taken into custody after allegedly stealing $100,000 worth of goods from a business in American Canyon. The catch? A selfie taken during the burglary helped link them to the crime.
Authorities believe the suspects swiped tools, copper wire, and even a vehicle this past Monday. The American Canyon police quickly identified the stolen vehicles and alerted other law enforcement agencies to the situation.
One of the men, 53-year-old Daniel Lemas, was apprehended while driving a stolen vehicle. Police discovered a photo of him at the crime scene, solidifying their case. As reported on social media by the American Canyon Police, he was charged with multiple felonies related to the robbery.
The following day, Hayward police intercepted a second vehicle and arrested 49-year-old Dennis Tillige, also on suspicion of conspiracy. It seems the net was tightening around them.
When investigators executed a search warrant on Arden Road, they found stolen property linked to the American Canyon business. Both suspects were booked at the Napa County Jail. Lemas managed to secure his release on a $25,000 bail, while Tillige remained in custody as of last Friday.
