Towns in the Spotlight Amid Knicks’ Struggles
MSG broadcasts have recently been highlighting Karl-Anthony Towns, particularly during a game when legendary announcer Walt “Clyde” Frazier expressed concern about Towns’ hustle. This moment came after Towns had fallen onto the opposing court, marking a pattern that some fans have begun to notice.
“Where’s Towns? He’s just starting to get noticed,” Frazier remarked roughly ten seconds after Towns missed a shot during the Knicks’ 103-87 victory over the Kings.
The scrutiny on Towns has been mounting. The Knicks, despite his potential, are not living up to expectations, and there are persistent rumors swirling around a trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo.
In a previous matchup against the Kings, the Knicks unexpectedly lost 112-101, which didn’t help Towns’ case. His attempt to recover on defense after hitting the ground was lackluster, drawing disapproval from head coach Mike Brown.
“He drove the car. Something happened where he fell. He drove and fell,” Brown said. “If you go down, you have to get up and sprint down the floor. But there was no urgency.” It seems that, at that moment, the urgency was lacking, and it cost the team a crucial five-point swing.
The coach commented further, saying that if Towns had at least shown some effort to retrieve a long rebound, things might have been different. “We saw the play at halftime and he didn’t even cross half court. That summed up our night,” he added.
During the recent game, Towns made a noticeable effort. However, it was telling that even team broadcasters highlighted his lack of hustle. After a missed shot in the third quarter, the Kings quickly pushed the ball up the court, and Towns was only seen entering the frame about ten seconds later.
To make matters worse, he didn’t return to play until the end, with Mitchell Robinson taking over his role on the court.
Despite the drama, Towns managed to finish the night with 17 points and 11 rebounds, but the ongoing issues raise questions about his long-term future with the team, particularly if the Knicks are serious about pursuing a major trade for Antetokounmpo.
