CNN in Decline After Losing Almost Two-Thirds of Its Audience

CNN’s Declining Viewership: A Summary

Reportedly, CNN is facing significant challenges, with claims of bias and self-righteousness contributing to a drop in its audience. According to sources, this has left the network in a precarious situation.

The network has lost nearly two-thirds of its prime-time viewers over the last decade, dropping from roughly 1.3 million in 2016 to around 553,000 today. There are growing speculations about a potential sale of the network.

While CNN has “strongly denied” these rumors, one might question the credibility of such statements, especially given the current context.

Interestingly, the latest viewer count of 553,000 is seen as an improvement from earlier this year when prominent figures like Jake Tapper and Anderson Cooper drew only 488,000 viewers.

Shifting veteran anchor Wolf Blitzer to daytime programming has not reversed the ratings decline. In fact, average daytime viewers have plummeted from 752,000 in 2016 to just 433,000 now.

When compared to 2021, CNN has experienced a staggering loss of 71 percent of its prime-time audience and 73 percent in daytime viewing.

The main issue does not seem to be related to the rise of streaming services or changes in how people consume news. It also isn’t that the news cycle is lacking significant events.

The success of FOX News serves as evidence for that argument. Instead, the core issues appear to be two-fold: CNN has lost public trust and become a subject of ridicule, and the network’s anchors are often criticized as unappealing. The personas of anchors like Caitlan Collins and Jake Tapper have sparked negative reactions. Many feel there’s a lack of accountability for misleading the public over the years.

There seems to be little acknowledgment of past mistakes, as CNN continues its current trajectory.
