CNN has refused to air an ad that blames President Joe Biden’s policies on the U.S.-Mexico border for the killing of 22-year-old Laken Riley, according to Building America’s Future, the group that created the ad.
Six-figure ad buys were made across the country and in key battleground states during Thursday night’s State of the Union (SOTU) address. Fox News, MSNBC, and Newsmax all accepted the ad.
Building America’s Future executives said CNN refused to air the ad.
“CNN and Joe Biden are aligned again. They won’t even #SayHerName,” Phil Cox told Breitbart News in a statement.
It is shameful that CNN is censoring the truth and trying to protect President Biden by refusing to air this ad. The American people understand that Biden’s open borders policy was the cause of Laken Riley’s death. “Building America’s Future” will be undaunted when it comes to the important task of informing the public of how much safer we are all becoming in America under President Joe Biden.

The ad links Biden’s border policies to Riley’s murder. On February 22, a young nursing student went for a run around the University of Georgia (UGA) campus and was later found bludgeoned to death in a wooded area near Herrick Lake.
The next day, 26-year-old illegal immigrant Jose Antonio Ybarra was arrested and charged with Riley’s murder. Ybarra arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border in September 2022 and was released inland through Biden’s parole pipeline.
“Laken Riley could have escaped in broad daylight without being killed by an illegal immigrant. But Joe Biden has promised not to deport illegal immigrants,” the ad reads.
In August 2023, several months before Riley’s murder, Ybarra was arrested and charged with child injury in the sanctuary city of New York City. Ybarra was released from prison before Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials placed him in custody.
Then, in October 2023, Ybarra was cited for shoplifting approximately $200 worth of merchandise from a Walmart in Athens. In December 2023, a warrant for Mr. Ybarra’s arrest was issued after he failed to appear in court on charges.
“Jose Ibarra was arrested in New York City on charges of child endangerment, but was released a second time. Ibarra went to Georgia, where he bludgeoned Laken Riley to death,” the ad continues. “How many more murderers has Biden released?”
